IOM REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON BETTER RESPONSE TO MIGRATION ISSUES IS HELD IN ISTANBUL


IBC PARTICIPATED AS AN IMPLEMENTING PARTNER AND ICVA MEMBER AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEBATE

At the meeting held in Istanbul ; the challenges faced by non-governmental organizations in the operation process and solutions to increase local capacity to increase assistance to vulnerable population were discussed.

Muzaffer Baca, Vice President of the International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation (IBC), participated in the Regional Humanitarian Consultation Meeting organized by IOM and ICVA in Istanbul.

Vice President of IBC, Muzaffer Baca, was the moderator of the Strengthening Local Operational Capacity Session. During the discussion with the representatives of international NGOs, Mr. Baca stated that the needs in the crisis regions should be analyzed properly and should not be limited to emergency aid. At the same time, he mentioned in cooperation with the donors related to the problems, providing the necessary funds for solution-oriented training to the field staff, the regular interaction of local governments and NGOs in the crisis zone and the cooperation of the local community leaders as  muhtars and imams especially in theMiddle East  region in order to gain the trust of vulnerable people.

The representatives gave examples of the problems they faced in the fields and made suggestions about how to eliminate the capacity problem. It’s emphasized that the positive impact of improving  capacity building process such as project donors, relations with local authorities, memorandum of understanding between donor and project implementing NGO.

IBC-International Blue Crescent is an impelementing partner of IOM in Turkey and implementing projects funded by IOM in Istanbul and other cities focused on solution of the legal and psycosocial needs of the Syrian refugees
