Muzaffer Baca, Vice President of IBC, took part as a panelist at United Nations Security Council to evaluate access to the COVID-19 vaccine from a human rights perspective.
Muzaffer Baca evaluated the process of vaccination practices in disadvantaged regions such as Syria, Yemen, and Ukraine and shared the successful practices of IBC in the region. In addition to the members of the UN Security Council, the five permanent members of the Council; Russia, USA, China, UK, and France, as well as representatives of USAID and the US State Department, attended.
Before the “Common and Effective Response to Pandemics” meeting, which will be held on April 11, 2022, equal access to the COVID-19 vaccine in countries in conflict and, access to reliable and adequate healthcare services to disadvantaged communities were evaluated.
Within this scope, Muzaffer Baca emphasized the establishment of an international intervention system that covers all safety aspects, especially for vaccine efforts, and drew particular attention to the need for healthcare personnel and logistics / operating expenses in the regions in question, as well as the need for drugs and medical supplies.
Muzaffer Baca; also shared with the participants the work carried out by IBC in Syria, Yemen, and most recently in Ukraine, for the sharp inequality that has existed since the first day of the pandemic.
In the panel organized by the UN, CARE, OXFAM, and International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA); Representatives from IRC, One Youth One Heart Initiative, and CARE also took part as speakers, while all participants shared their concrete suggestions for a fairer application of the COVID-19 vaccine by directly conveying their experiences in the field.
IBC especially disinfection of refugee camps, tens of thousands of COVID-19 test kits and hygiene materials, providing support to approximately 100 thousand people since 2020, when the pandemic began.
