UKRAINE'S HUMANITARIAN CRISIS WAS DISCUSSED AT WEBINAR CHAIRED BY IBC VICE PRESIDENT MUZAFFER BACA


“Russian Invasion of Ukraine and Its Humanitarian Impact To The Region” was the title of the webinar organized by the Eurasian Universities Union on 14th April 2022 . Turkish Radio and TV (TRT) Kyiv correspondent Murat Can Öztürk reported from the field the humanitarian tragedy he faced since the beginning of the war on 25th February. He explained the tragic scenes he eyewitnessed during the evacuation of Irpin and Mariupol and how Russian occupying forces were firing on those innocent civilians. TRT Chief Correspondent Fuat Kozluklu stressed the need for international intervention to stop the War because its leaning toward a 3rd World War that will have tremendous effects on the future of humanity. Sid Johann Peruvemba, Speaker of Action Medeor Germany NGO focused on the need for impartiality in humanitarian response giving examples from Syria, Yemen and comparing them with the Ukraine Crisis. He emphasized that political-religious ethnic approaches to such humanitarian tragedies are discouraging people from suffering and need urgent assistance and that creates an unstable future for humanity. Professor Viacheslav Shobik Vice-Rector of Odessa Technology University plead for assistance to keep their institutions functioning by providing financial assistance fort o overcome the burden that the loss of students caused because of the war. He stated that almost all foreign students left the country and national students are on the frontline to fight Russian aggression. Mr. Paul Anticoni, President of World Jewish Relief UK stressed the need to work more closely with the local NGO s and communities for an integrated response to the needs of the suffering people. He said that this way funds will be used more effectively and if local civil  society organizations are supported the future of the local communities will be safer

Dr. Mustafa Aydin President of the Eurasian Universities Union reminded the slogan of Ataturk about (Peace at Homeland, Peace at the World) and pointed out the efforts of the Turkish Government to mediate for a ceasefire and permanent peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis. Dr. Aydın reminded us that if such aggressions have not deteriorated the future of humanity is under great threat.
