IBC RESPONSE IN MIKOLAYIV KHERSON AND ODESSA

Tragic Developments in Ukraine After collapse of Kahkovsksta Dam tems of thousands of people move to West

On June 6, 2023, Russian troops committed another act of terrorism by blowing up the reservoir dam at the Kakhovskaya HPP.

As of 1 p.m., more than 70 settlements were in the flood zone, including some districts of the city of Kherson.

Water keeps on coming and according to specialists it will last at least 4 days, more settlements will be flooded.

According to Kherson Military Administration, as of 01.06. there are 161674 people living in the de-occupied part of Kherson region.

Tens of thousands of people were left without their homes, in some settlements houses are demolished by streams of water, many houses are flooded completely.

According to the officially published graph, we can see that the consequences can be critical, there remain threats of ecological and nuclear catastrophe.

In many localities, roads are washed out and destroyed, making it much more difficult to evacuate people. Many settlements can only be reached by boat.

In spite of this local authorities and volunteers are actively evacuating the population, as of 16.00 about 2000 people have been evacuated.

In Mykolaiv the main center where evacuated people are brought was chosen by the regional military administration, a heating center (community shelter) that was opened by the International Blue Crescent and Bucak Relief Charitable Foundations.

It is equipped with a kitchen that allows to prepare hot meals, a bakery that allows to bake up to 5000 loaves of bread a day, a high power generator and a water tank of 5 tons, which allows to work autonomously.

Our place is ready to accept about 300-400 people at a time.

In Kherson, we have two distribution points for humanitarian aid. On June 6, the volunteers of the Bucak Relief and IBC funds organized the distribution of food packages, clothes, and personal hygiene products for the residents of Kherson and the region. More than 800 people received humanitarian aid.

Also employees of Bucak Relief and IBC take part in the evacuation of victims in the Kherson region.

To date, there is a list of needs, which are urgently required by residents of the Kherson region. First of all:

  1. Food packs
  2. Personal hygiene kits
  3. Drinking water
  4. Water filtration systems
  5. Fuel (diesel/gasoline for evacuation)

We will appreciate your help, and together we must help the affected people.
