IBC officially opened the Turkey-Korea Friendship City established under the coordination of AFAD and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in the Serinyol region of Hatay, which was devastated by the February 6 earthquakes.

The opening ceremony was attended by IBC Vice President Muzaffer Baca, Korean Ambassador Won Ik Lee, AFAD and local administrators, as well as representatives of project partners Save the Children, Good Neighbors, KFHI and First Hope Association.

As IBC, we are providing 170 ready-to-sit containers to the container city where about 2000 people will be housed, while we are also developing regular distribution of basic needs kits, empowerment activities for women, psychosocial support activities, awareness meetings and vocational projects to redevelop the people of the region.

In his opening speech, IBC Vice President Muzaffer Baca stated that IBC is working as quickly as possible to realize its dreams for the region, and that a community committee will be established where all residents of the city of friendship will make their voices heard and express their problems.

Muzaffer Baca said, “As IBC, we, as all board members, along with our project managers and field workers, have been on the field since the second day of the earthquake. While we immediately initiate our efforts to quickly meet the urgent needs of the people affected by the earthquake; We implemented our long-term projects by completing the needs assessment studies of the region. In this context, we are happy to contribute to the opening of the Turkey-Korea Friendship City today, after the container city we established in Hatay Kırıkhan with the support of AFAD.”

In the field together with the IBC; Save the Children carries out psychosocial support and protection activities for children in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Ministry of National Education; With the support of KFHI and İlk Umut Association, the installation of laundry and common hygienic facilities was completed.

Turkey-Korea Friendship City is a new beginning in which all the needs of the people of the region affected by the earthquake will be met and an important commitment to friendship and cooperation between the people of the two countries.
