THE COMMUNITY CENTER (VECC) IN AFGHANISTAN HAD ITS FIRST GRADUATES!

The political turmoil in Afghanistan has profoundly altered the lives of its people, particularly women.

The political shifts within the country have rippled through its economy and various sectors, notably education. These issues, impacting individuals of all ages, have particularly burdened women and girls.

Life has significantly worsened for women and girls, who not only have had their fundamental rights and freedoms stripped away but also find themselves entirely isolated from both social and educational spheres. Economic disruptions have plunged the Afghan populace into unemployment. Financial constraints, such as cash flow shortages, have led to the emergence and daily increase of unemployed masses.

IBC, in collaboration with IDRF Canada, closely monitored the developments in Afghanistan and established the Vocational & Educational Community Center (VECC) in Mazar-i Sharif to address the arising issues in the country. The center's objective was to offer educational support to the Afghan people, enabling them to acquire professions and contribute to employment generation. Aligned with this mission, training programs in carpet weaving, tailoring, and carpentry were initiated at VECC. Following a period of training, 150 individuals, predominantly women, received their certificates at a recent ceremony.

Nearly 100 women who completed tailoring and carpet weaving training expressed hope in contributing to their families' livelihoods and forging new paths for themselves with their newfound skills.

Sohaila, one of those who completed her tailoring training, said that she learned a lot about the profession at the VECC; she added that it could create employment opportunities for both herself and other women. Malali Karimi, who completed her carpet weaving training, stated that they were happy to have such an opportunity and that they could earn money by working from home.

IBC, which always supports women and girls so that they can exist in all areas of life and continues its work in this direction, did not forget the men who lost their jobs or had difficulty finding a job due to economic problems. Saeed Abbas, who completed his carpentry training at the VECC, stated that they were very pleased to have such an opportunity. He added that his father continues to work in his family and now  thanks to his profession, he will be able to also earn money and support them.

The VECC, which was established in Mazar-i Sharif by IBC with the support of IDRF Canada, has graduated from its first term. The Foundation, which aims to provide a wide range of education in every field in the region, will continue its activities without slowing down.
