MEETING MERKEL TO DISCUSS REFUGEES ON BEHALF OF TURKISH YOUTH

A proud moment for International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation. IBC project coordinator Gizem Korun has represented the republic of Turkey as head delegate at the Y20 youth summit, an official engagement group of the G20 leaders' summit. The summit took place on June 1-8 in Berlin and was attended by 72 representatives from 31 countries. Participants discussed 11 topics of this year’s G20 agenda and presented their position papers to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Explored through a youth perspective and included in solutions provided by the world youth, the issues faced by Refugees and Asylum Seekers was one of these 11 topics. Gizem Korun and Italian colleague, Corrado Cok, asked G20 leaders to develop a more effective mechanism in addressing refugee issues and to share the responsibility, when presenting the topic to Chancellor Merkel. They also called on world leaders to ensure safe passage and humane living conditions for refugees and asylum seekers on behalf of all Y20 delegates.
