IBC emergency food assistance program started to be realized in Shehan District for displaced people periodically every month starting from April 2016 till August 2017 in cooperation with Help - Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e. V. Project aims to distribute monthly average 2000 pre-assembled food parcels for internally displaced people in Shekhan district of Northern Iraq.
In its latest statement, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) warned that the situation in the war-torn country continues to worsen with over two million Iraqis now believed to be displaced within the country and another millions having fled to neighboring states. In Northern Iraq, particularly in Shekhan where IBC conducting its food distributions, many displaced families suffering from financial shortages relatively IDPs became extremely vulnerable due to poor, inadequate food.
In order to ensure that that people facing displacement have access to food, IBC conducts food distributions in line with the project code IRK 33-16 which enabled on 01.04.2016, and emergency response programs of IBC in Northern Iraq to cover emergency needs of conflict affected populations as the International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation – IBC will be implementing distribution of monthly based 2000 food parcels (each of them to be 65 Kg) for a duration of April 2016 to August 2017 in Shekhan District. Emergency relief packages contents and amount of the monthly food aid/parcels composition are obtained in accordance with UN-WFP standards as follows:
• Sunflower Seed Oil (5 Liters)
• Coarse Bulgur(5kg)
• Dry Bean( 2,5 Kg)
• Red Lentil (5 Kg)
• Chickpea(5 Kg)
• Granulated Sugar( 5 Kg)
• Pasta(7,5 K.g)
• Rice for Pilaf ( 15 Kg)
• Bread Wheat Flour ( 15 Kg)
• Salt ( 750 gr)
The project, in correspond to IBC mission reaching and supporting most vulnerable displaced communities, hoping to improve basic conditions for survival of the internally displaced persons based in Shekan, Northern Iraq.
