ESNET PRESS MEETING FOCUSED on EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE MITIGATIONS and SAFETY NETWORK

The Project mainly aims to contribute to the prevention of natural disasters generated by earthquakes in Black Sea basin by developing a joint monitoring and intervention concept. With this aim the Project is implemented in multi-partnership of Turkey International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation - IBC, Romania National Institute of Research and Development for Earth Physics – NIEP, Geophysical Institute of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences – BAS, Geology and Seismology Institute of Moldavian Academy of Sciences IGS.

In this respect after the conclusion of the Project inception activities and Project Opening Conference in Romania one of the Projects press meeting was held on 12th July 2012 in Istanbul. In the meeting the Project was presented to the press and the stakeholders.

The meeting was participated by the Press, Project Partners and the main leader Turkish National Stakeholder Intuitions. The participators made short presentations and gave pioneering information about the high potential and importance of ESNET Project and its results that has concrete influences and contributions to the prevention and intervention systems in the Countries that the Project is being implemented.

Proffesor of Earthquake Engineering Bogazici University, Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, KOERI Department of Earthquake Engineering Assist.Prof.Can ZULFIKAR and Assist.Prof. Eren UCKAN; Ministry of Health Istanbul Branch UMKE Director Emergency Medicine Specialist Doctor Ferudun CELIKMEN; Republic of Turkey Istanbul Governorship Special Provincial Administration Istanbul Project Coordination Unit – IPCU BCE, MSc Numan TUFEKCI; Republic of Turkey Istanbul Aydin University Disaster Education, Application and Research Centre – AFAM Director Assist.Prof. Kubilay KAPTAN; Institute of Research and Development for Earth Physics – NIEP Researcher Toma Danila DRAGOS and Geology and Seismology Institute of Moldavian Academy of Sciences IGS Dr.Rashid BURTIEV.

The discussions and the outcomes of the meeting were also efficacious for the preparatory works of the Regional Workshop which programmed to be conducted on 27th - 28th September 2012 in Istanbul. End of the meeting the strategic action plan was also developed for further Project activities.
