IBC CONTRIBUTION TO SANITATION IN IDP CAMPS OF SOMALIA


IBC intensifies its sanitation activities in IDP camps in Somalia. One of the most contributions is the construction of latrines in IDP camps in Mogadishu and Bay Bakool region.

The objective of project is to construct emergency for 600HH latrines for drought affected people who were displaced from their villages and eventually settled in IDP Settlements in Banadir, Bay and Bakool regions namely, Shibis, Bondheer, Abdiaziz, Wajid, Hudur, Teyglow, Qansaxdhere, Burhakaba and Bulafulay.

IBC Completed construction of 400 pit latrines in the targeted areas where IDP camps located. Construction supervisors checking and controlling the quality of the latrines, visibility and whether the contractor met with IBC standards for construction of pit latrines.

IBC hygiene promoters intensified the hygiene promotion campaign for all those ones issued with basic latrine facilities through tailored made messages reinforcing good hand washing practice after visiting latrines and upon washing baby bottoms. 

Hygiene training to children in these camps continue too. Around 20000 children have been trained on hygiene issues.
