KÜÇÜKÇEKMECE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER IS RAISING CHIEFS OF THE FUTURE


In collaboration with Expertise France, International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation (IBC) is organizing Kitchen Workshop since July and Sous Chef Course since December. Thus, hundreds of young people meet with culinary arts and build a professional career in gastronomy.

The work is being carried out under the Qudra Program funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Development of the Federal Economic Cooperation (BMZ). In regard with the cooking workshop; sugar paste cookie, jam cooking, syrupped desserts, pasta cooking techniques, pizza, pie, cupcake, soup and salad making sessions has been organized as one shot events. Syrian and Turkish young people have discovered their common palatal delight, discussed about the world kitchen’s similar or different tastes. So, they both meet with each other’s culture and also different cultures.

Sous Chef Courses - Public Education Center certificated vocational courses- has been implemented for contributing the youth population’s career in gastronomy domain. In those vocational courses, both Syrian and Turkish youth are having education during three months. From kitchen and personal hygiene, selection of materials, cutting techniques and to presentation skills which are needed in the domain of cuisine have been shared with young people. Both theoretical and practical education of courses, there is a different menu in the end of the day.

In the end of the courses, increase in social inclusion is expected by meeting with new people from the common concept around food, increase in the awareness of Turkish and Syrian youth, to create a substructure for those who want to achieve gastronomy education and employment of worker youth as qualified staff in work life.
