FIGHTING HUNGER IN THE MIDDLE OF CONFLICT

The civil war that has been going on in Sudan for more than 1 year has caused the problems in access to food to deepen day by day.

Long-standing tensions within the country sparked clashes between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April 2023. The clashes, which started in the capital Khartoum, created a domino effect and led to a conflict of alarming proportions with violent clashes spreading to other parts of the country. Approximately 10 million people had to flee their homes during the conflict. This conflict, which affects each generation from 7 to 70 separately, constitutes one of the most important crises the world and humanity have ever seen.

25.6 million people in Sudan, which has a population of 51 million, are struggling to survive due to acute food insufficiency, while hundreds of people are dying due to hunger and hunger-related diseases.

The ongoing conflict continues to make access to basic humanitarian needs increasingly difficult across the country. This situation has almost minimised access to water, food, shelter, health services and many other basic humanitarian needs for millions of people. Almost one in three people in Sudan has become food insecure, while the already fragile health system is shattered by an alarming cholera outbreak as well as looming disease outbreaks, including dengue fever, measles and malaria.

Sudan, which is deeply experiencing one of the world's biggest crises, is in need of urgent and comprehensive humanitarian relief intervention. International Blue Crescent Foundation (IBC), which closely follows the developments in the region and continues its activities, distributed food packages to families in need with the cooperation of IDRF Canada in Khartoum, Madani and Port Sudan regions. Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) provided one-month food package support to 500 families (3200 people) who could not leave their areas and were trapped in dangerous areas due to the ongoing clashes between Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

People of all ages, especially women and children, are trapped in a great tragedy due to the increasing tension in the country every day. The support of our dear donors is vital in order to extend our helping hand to the people in need in Sudan, where the sounds of conflict drown out the cries for help.
